How we work
About Cherry Brown
Better thinking doesn’t happen by chance. It happens through a structured process of reflection, learning and continuous improvement.
At Browns, every piece of work is delivered through the same evidence-informed methodology. Whether we are supporting an individual practitioner, a management team or an entire organisation, our approach remains consistent.
The Browns Learning Cycle provides a clear framework for understanding practice, identifying learning, embedding improvement and evaluating impact. Rather than delivering isolated training sessions or one-off recommendations, we work with organisations to create sustainable change that strengthens safeguarding culture over time.
The Browns Learning Cycle

The Learning Cycle is designed to support organisations through every stage of improvement.
It begins by understanding current practice through discussion, observation, audits or case reviews. Together we identify strengths, recognise patterns, explore areas of uncertainty and understand the context behind decision-making.
From there, learning is developed through reflective conversations, case-based workshops, supervision and practical tools that encourage professional curiosity and critical thinking.
Learning is then embedded into everyday practice through implementation, leadership support and ongoing reflection, ensuring that improvements become part of organisational culture rather than remaining isolated pieces of training.
Finally, we evaluate the impact of the work, measuring progress, identifying further learning opportunities and supporting organisations to continue developing long after the initial consultancy has finished.
Every organisation is different. The methodology is consistent.
No two organisations face exactly the same challenges.
Some require support following a safeguarding review. Others want to strengthen reflective supervision, improve professional curiosity, prepare for inspection or develop greater confidence in decision-making.
The starting point may differ, but the methodology remains the same.
This consistency allows Browns to tailor every piece of consultancy to the needs of the organisation while maintaining a clear, structured approach that builds confidence, strengthens safeguarding culture and supports defensible practice.
What this means for your organisation
Working with Browns is not about purchasing a training course.
It is about investing in a process that develops thinking, strengthens professional judgement and creates meaningful organisational learning.
Every conversation, workshop, review and resource is connected through the same methodology, giving your organisation a consistent approach to safeguarding improvement that is practical, reflective and sustainable.I am an experienced safeguarding professional with a background across children’s and adults’ services, supporting practitioners, managers and organisations to navigate complex safeguarding situations.
Throughout my career, I have worked alongside professionals managing risk, uncertainty and difficult decision-making. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that safeguarding is rarely about having all the answers. More often, it is about asking the right questions.
This belief sits at the heart of Brown’s Safeguarding & Practice Consultancy.
My approach is rooted in professional curiosity, reflective practice and evidence-informed thinking. I believe that creating space for reflection helps professionals move beyond procedures and checklists to develop confident, defensible and person-centred safeguarding decisions.
I am passionate about supporting practitioners to think critically, explore alternative perspectives and remain curious when working with complexity, risk and uncertainty.
Whether I am providing reflective supervision, facilitating a professional curiosity workshop, supporting a complex safeguarding discussion or delivering training, my aim is always the same:
To help professionals think clearly, reflect deeply and strengthen their safeguarding practice.
I work collaboratively with local authorities, health services, education providers, housing organisations, charities and independent practitioners across children’s and adults’ services.
Brown’s Safeguarding & Practice Consultancy was created to provide independent support, challenge and reflection for professionals committed to improving safeguarding practice and outcomes for the people they support.
If you would like to discuss how we can support your organisation, I would be pleased to hear from you.
Developing LAID CLEAR™
As part of my commitment to professional curiosity, reflective practice and safeguarding improvement, I have developed Laid Clear™, a structured reflective practice and safeguarding thinking framework.
Laid Clear™ was created in response to a common challenge faced by professionals across safeguarding services: how to organise information, identify gaps in knowledge, apply evidence and make defensible decisions when working with complexity, uncertainty and risk.
The framework encourages practitioners to think beyond the presenting concern, remain professionally curious and consider a wider range of factors including strengths, risks, protective factors, research, legislation, learning from safeguarding reviews and available support options.
Laid Clear™ continues to evolve through practice, supervision, training and feedback from professionals working across children’s and adults’ services. Its purpose is simple: to support clearer thinking, deeper reflection and safer safeguarding decisions.
